- 30% of a full-year’s property loss value happens on Thanksgiving Day.
Thanksgiving can be busy for your local fire department. Follow these tips so that firefighters can enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving meal too!
Watch What You Cook
When something is on the stove, don’t leave the room. It can only take a moment for a fire to start, and if you’re there when it happens, you stand a better chance of putting it out quickly.
Keep A Lid Nearby
If a fire does start in a pot or pan, carefully slide a lid on top, and turn off the stove. Leave the pan alone until it has cooled completely.
Fry Outside
If you are a deep-fried turkey lover, do your frying outdoors. NEVER deep-fry a turkey inside. And never, never, EVER deep-fry a frozen turkey. Check out the video below to see why this could turn your turkey day into day in the emergency room.
Know How To Extinguish A Fire
Never put water onto a grease fire – it will only make it worse. Have a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it. If you need more information on the types of fire extinguisher you need, we have a blog for that here.
Check Smoke Alarms
Before the craziness of the holiday begins, do a quick smoke alarm check. Change the batteries if needed.
