This time of year, spring fever can turn into summer anticipation that can distract us from everyday safety precautions. Join us in June to refocus on workplace safety during National Safety Month.
Created by the National Safety Council in 1996, National Safety Month is a time to increase awareness of the most common causes of workplace injuries and how to avoid them. Each week typically has a different theme. This year’s themes are:
Week 1: Emergency Preparedness
Week 2: Slips, Trips, and Falls
Week 3: Heat-Related Illnesses
Week 4: Hazard Recognition
Our team at DynaFire is focused on Fire & Life Safety every week of the year, so we are ready to give some fire safety tips in observance of National Safety Month.
Revisit Your Office’s Emergency Plan
The best way to avoid injuries in an emergency is to establish a plan well before you need it. According to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), your fire safety plan must include the following:
- A comprehensive list of significant fire hazards, including proper storage and handling of hazardous materials and the type of fire protection equipment needed for each hazard
- Procedures regarding the handling of combustible materials
- Procedures regarding maintenance of heat-producing equipment
- The job title of the employees assigned to equipment maintenance
- And others
In addition to the above emergency plan, the NFPA recommends businesses document the following:
- Emergency reporting procedures
- Procedures for occupants and staff to respond to emergency situations
- Evacuation procedures
- Procedures for the use of elevators
- Creation and practice of fire drills
- Fire protection systems
- Other items required by your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction)
Revisit Your Office’s Fire Safety Equipment
Every commercial building should be equipped with fire extinguishers and a fire alarm system, and be connected to a reliable fire alarm monitoring system. When you check on these items this month and find one element of your Fire & Life Safety plan that is missing or hasn’t been addressed in a while, our team at DynaFire is ready to help.
We have been serving the fire safety needs of Central Florida since 2004, and our dedicated team can assist with any gaps in your fire safety plan. Schedule a visit to your facility so we can review your fire safety equipment.
Fire Extinguishers
The NFPA recommends placing fire extinguishers throughout your building at distances that are not beyond a “maximum travel distance.” Determining what this distance is for your facility may take some math skills. Good thing we love math, and we love fire extinguishers! Our team can measure, calculate, and map out the ideal locations for placement of your fire extinguishers.
If you need to add a few to your collection, we can help you there too. We offer and service all major brands. While designing your fire extinguisher map, we can inspect your fire extinguishers and put them on a regular inspection and maintenance schedule. Adequately maintained fire extinguishers will do their job when needed – a great way to celebrate National Safety Month!
Fire Alarm System
While in the building, we can inspect your smoke detectors and test your fire alarm system. Testing this equipment on schedule will ensure it works when needed.
If you don’t have a fire alarm system installed, our design team can create one unique to your building. We can then install, test, and offer maintenance regularly.
An integral part of your fire alarm system is fire suppression. We can install and maintain fire suppression systems that use water, foam, or dry chemicals. What type of suppression system you need depends on the materials housed in your building.
Fire Alarm Monitoring
The perfect way to celebrate National Safety Month is by connecting your fire alarm system to our 100% efficient DynaNet monitoring system. In case of a fire alarm, your emergency signal will be sent along the fastest wireless route to our Central Monitoring Station, and first responders will be there before you know it.
Other than being the fastest and most reliable monitoring system available, DynaNet requires no digging, trenching, or cables for installation. It’s wireless, and once your building is connected, it becomes a receiver and a transmitter, making our network even faster!
