The 6-Step Inspection Process Our Melbourne Fire Alarm Contractors Follow To Ensure Safety In The Workplace

Our Melbourne fire alarm contractors wear many hats, and inspecting is one of them. Are you interested in the steps they take to complete an inspection?

We’re sharing the six steps that our Melbourne fire alarm contractors follow below:

Step One: Alert Authorities

When you make an appointment for a fire alarm inspection, the first thing our technicians do upon arrival is alert the monitoring station and fire department that an inspection is going to be performed. This is to ensure they don’t react to a false alarm and waste their resources.

Step Two: Assess Your Last Inspection

It’s always a good idea to review the report from your property’s most recent inspection so that our technicians are aware of the measures that were taken. A fire alarm inspection requires at least two Melbourne fire alarm contractors on the scene. This step allows them both to be on the same page as to what specific systems may need to be looked at moving forward.

Melbourne Fire Alarm ContractorsStep Three: Inspect & Test Smoke Detectors

A smoke detector’s role is to acknowledge smoke and activate the fire alarms. If one of these systems isn’t functioning properly, the other isn’t able to do its job. That’s why it’s vital to test the smoke detectors during an inspection. We do this with a special tool that resembles a cup on the end of a pole. An aerosol can is at the bottom of the cup that imitates smoke and causes the smoke detector to go off. The technician at the fire alarm panel can then relay to the tester if the smoke detectors were successful.

Step Four: Inspect & Test Fire Alarm Pull Stations

Next up is the fire alarm pull stations. In order to test these stations, one of our Melbourne fire alarm contractors will pull the handle to activate the system. The technician at the fire alarm panel will then be able to see a notification if the pull station was activated. We deactivate the fire alarm horns and strobes beforehand to avoid disturbing any occupants in the building. But don’t worry- they will be tested in step five!

Step Five: Test Fire Alarm Horns & Strobes

The fun (loud) part! To test the fire alarm horns and strobes, our fire alarm technicians pull the pull station to sound the alarm. Once we’re sure all sounds are successful, we go back to the fire alarm panel to turn off the horns and strobes.

Step Six: Check The Batteries

The last step is to test the fire alarm panel’s battery backup to ensure the batteries are sufficient. The batteries are also tested in the Notification Appliance Circuits (NAC) panel, which helps to power and connect the strobes, horns, detectors, and fire alarm components to the fire alarm panel.
