• Ensure the fire extinguisher is in its designated place.

• Verify that the fire extinguisher is full by lifting or weighing it.

In a hydrostatic test, a fire extinguisher is pressure tested to verify its strength against unwanted leaks or ruptures. If a fire extinguisher fails a hydrostatic test, it must be retired.

Hydrostatic testing should be performed every five and 12 years from the manufacture date. Rechargeable fire extinguishers have a longer lifespan than disposable ones. Instead of replacing them every 10-12 years, you need to have them recharged every six years for optimal function.
