Your fire extinguisher is your first line of defense in a fire. However, without regular Orlando fire extinguisher inspections, yours may only work as a doorstop.
If you think having a fire extinguisher and having a functioning fire extinguisher is the same thing, you’d be wrong. Your fire extinguisher could turn into little more than a wall decoration without proper inspection and maintenance. If you’re not sure when you had your fire extinguishers last inspected, we’re glad you’re here! We want to share why having them inspected regularly is crucial and how we at DynaFire can help.
The Job Of A Fire Extinguisher
Fire extinguishers are vital to your Fire & Life Safety plan. When Dave from accounting overcooks his microwave popcorn (again), your office kitchen fire extinguisher can help put out a fire. And in case of a more significant fire, your fire extinguishers can give your personnel a safe means of egress from the building, creating a path for them to evacuate safely.
How Often Should You Have Your Fire Extinguishers Inspected?
According to NFPA requirements, you should have your fire extinguishers inspected when installed, then visually inspected every month after that. If your fire extinguishers are installed in places where they’re more prone to impact, rust, or tampering, you should have them inspected more frequently.
At DynaFire, our Orlando fire extinguisher inspection team can perform your monthly inspections as part of an overall maintenance plan. If your fire extinguisher needs service, we will do that for you. We want you to have the peace of mind that in case of emergency, your fire extinguishers will work like they’re supposed to.
What’s Involved In A Fire Extinguisher Inspection?
When we inspect your fire extinguishers, we perform a series of checks, including:
- Proper location
- Adequate signage indicating its location
- Ease of accessibility
- Pressure gauge is in the operable range
- Checking its weight to make sure it is full
- And more
Our staff is trained to inspect and maintain all brands and types of fire extinguishers, including ABC, BC, Purple K, CO2, K-Class, Halotron, water mist, water, Class D, FE-36, high-flow, industrial wheeled units, & Redline Series type fire extinguishers.
What Maintenance Do Fire Extinguishers Need?
Every year, your fire extinguisher must undergo a thorough examination to determine if any physical damage would prevent its operation. If any repair or replacement is needed, and if hydrostatic testing or internal maintenance is required, our Orlando fire extinguisher inspection team can perform those services for you.
In addition to annual maintenance, every six years from your fire extinguisher’s manufacture date, your fire extinguisher must be emptied and tested. All internal parts are replaced, and the dry chemical powder is recycled or replaced as needed.
Every five and 12 years from the manufacture date, fire extinguishers that require hydrostatic testing must be pressure tested to verify that there are no leaks or ruptures.
Who Can Perform Orlando Fire Extinguisher Inspections?
While anyone can look at a fire extinguisher and see that it’s in its proper place with the appropriate signage and shows no signs of damage, you need a certified technician to perform any maintenance that might be necessary.
Our team of skilled fire extinguisher inspectors is qualified to ensure that your fire extinguishers are functioning correctly and ready to do their job if needed. Contact DynaFire today to schedule an inspection, maintenance appointment, or for any other Fire & Life Safety questions.
