The 4-Step Process For Using Your Orlando Commercial Fire Extinguisher

Stop where you are and ask yourself if you would know how to use your commercial fire extinguisher if the instance were to arise. If the answer is no, keep reading to learn the four steps to handling that situation.

Orlando Commercial Fire ExtinguisherIf you’ve never had to use your Orlando commercial fire extinguisher, consider yourself lucky. Because most people haven’t been in the situation where they’ve had to contain a fire, it’s likely that they wouldn’t know what to do in the event of an emergency. As a Fire & Life Safety company, it’s our job (and sincere desire) to educate you on the 4-step process that could potentially save your life.

The 4-step process is based on the PASS System that was designed to help users remember the functions of a fire extinguisher. Engrave the following steps into your brain so that you can be the hero you’ve always wanted to be:

Step 1: Pull The Pin

First things first, you want to make sure you’re holding the fire extinguisher away from yourself before unlocking the mechanism. This is to ensure you don’t hit yourself or anything in your surroundings while trying to unlock the system.

Step 2: Aim At The Base Of The Fire

The keyword here is base. By targeting the base, you’re tackling the fuel source of the fire and extinguishing the target area. Aiming at the flames could cause the flames to blow around, which may result in further spreading and more damage.

Step 3: Squeeze The Lever Slowly

Once you’re in a ready position, it’s go-time. Simply squeeze the lever slowly to begin releasing the extinguishing agent. Remember, there is a limited amount of substance inside every Orlando commercial fire extinguisher, so use it wisely and squeeze only until you get a controlled amount.

Step 4: Sweep The Nozzle

The motion you want to practice is sweeping from side to side at the base of the fire. And keep in mind, you should be a good distance away from the fire while performing this act. Keep aiming and sweep back and forth to extinguish as much of the base as possible. If you notice that the fire is beginning to recede, be sure to adjust your positioning and continue to spray for as long as the extinguisher will allow.

In order to perform the functions above, you must ensure that your Orlando commercial fire extinguisher is in good shape at all times. We can help give you that peace of mind by providing inspection and maintenance services at your convenience. Contact us today to schedule an appointment!
