The 5-Step Hydrostatic Process For Miami Fire Extinguisher Testing

Fire extinguishers are only cool when they work. Here’s the process we follow when initiating Miami fire extinguisher testing.

Step One: Visual Inspection

The first thing we do for a Miami fire extinguisher testing service is perform a visual inspection. Our technicians will assess the cylinder of the fire extinguisher for any physical external damage. This is to ensure there are no flaws before pressurizing the cylinder to prevent injury to the technician and potential damage to the room. During this inspection, we’re looking for signs of corrosion, dents, cylinder threads, signs of abuse and heat damage.

Step Two: Removal Of The Hose

The second step in the process requires us to remove the hose from the extinguisher. This is where the hydrotest adapter takes its place and is plugged in to capture the extinguishing agent when the time comes.

Step Three: Discharge

This is the fun part. When you reach out to us for Miami fire extinguisher testing, did you imagine us spraying the extinguisher to verify that it worked? People often do! Instead, we have to release the extinguishing agent in full so that it does not interfere with test results.

Miami Fire Extinguisher TestingStep Four: Removal Of The Valve

Once the extinguisher is completely discharged, the next step is to remove the valve. When the ‘lid’ is off, we’re able to accurately inspect the interior of the cylinder and look for problems, such as pitting. If pitting is identified, it’s game over for that system. The fire extinguisher will then be taken out of the testing pool because it can no longer be used.

Step Five: Pressure Testing

The final phase of the process is pressure testing with water! In order to protect the tester from a potential explosion of the cylinder, there should always be a cage or shield put in place. If the results state that there is a loss of pressure during testing, it indicates a leak in the cylinder. And that’s how we’ll know it’s time to get you a new Fire Safety system
