Wondering what you need to know about Jacksonville OSHA fire extinguisher inspection requirements? Or maybe who to call? We have the answer – it’s DynaFire.
There’s a pretty good chance that the workplace you’re in has a fire extinguisher and also follows OSHA regulations, which means that you’re going to need both monthly and annual Jacksonville OSHA fire extinguisher inspections. You can read more about the general OSHA standards for commercial environments here, because today we’re talking about fire extinguisher inspection. And as your local Fire & Life Safety superheroes, we’re here with all the facts you need to keep your building compliant.
OSHA Inspection Standards
OSHA standards state that monthly visual inspections must be completed and are the responsibility of the employer. These don’t need to be documented by OSHA standards, but NFPA code states that they should. There are a few things we never slack on safety standards with: sushi, skydiving, and your fire extinguisher.
It’s best for the annual inspections to be done by a certified professional, since they have the equipment, tools, and know-how to do any necessary maintenance. We know some really great certified professionals, in case you’re on the market (hint, hint).
These inspections must be documented, and the records need to be retained and available for at least one year after the last entry, or the life of the extinguisher, whichever is shorter.
What To Look For During A Monthly Jacksonville OSHA Fire Extinguisher Inspection
Even though this inspection isn’t documented, it still needs to be thorough. You’ll want to be checking for a few things:
- The extinguisher is in the proper location
- The extinguisher is both visible and accessible
- Operating instructions are present and visible
- There are no signs of tampering or other physical damage
- The pressure indicator shows that it’s within the correct pressure range
If you notice anything that looks questionable, or if your extinguisher has visible damage, don’t hesitate to contact DynaFire for additional inspection and repair services. Additionally, if your extinguisher is located where it’s at high risk for rust, impacts, or tampering, it should be inspected more frequently.
What We Provide During An Annual Maintenance Inspection
OSHA standards call for an annual maintenance check per CFR 1910.157(e)(3). Our inspectors don’t miss a thing, and here’s an example of what will be on our radar:
- Monthly inspections are completed
- Records are being retained to keep you compliant
- All mechanical parts are in working order
- The extinguishing agent is present and is the correct type for your property
- The overall physical condition of the extinguisher
We’ll also conduct an internal inspection if that’s required as part of the maintenance, and can provide any annual interval testing that may be necessary as well. If you want to know more about this, be sure to check the manufacturer’s label on your fire extinguisher, or just ask DynaFire!
