We are seeking a Fire Alarm CAD Operator who will be responsible for producing, updating, and maintaining accurate CAD drawings and documentation for fire alarm systems. This role supports the design, permitting, and installation phases of projects by ensuring that all drawings meet current codes, standards, and project requirements. The CAD Operator also plays a key role in tracking revisions, managing design schedules, maintaining status reports, and processing responses to feedback or rejections from authorities and engineers.
- Create and update fire alarm system layout drawings using AutoCAD (and/or Revit), ensuring accuracy and code compliance.
- Interpret and work from architectural, fire protection, mechanical, and electrical drawings to develop fire alarm system designs.
- Generate riser diagrams, device layouts, circuiting, and battery calculations in accordance with NFPA 72, NEC, and local codes.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and technicians to incorporate red-lines, design changes, and field updates into drawings.
- Prepare and maintain submittal packages, shop drawings, and as-built documentation for project close-outs while maintaining. project drawing status reports and regularly update stakeholders on progress and milestones.
- Track and complete revisions in response to rejections or comments issued by:
-The Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) during permit review or inspection phases.
-The Engineer of Record (EOR) during design review or submittal processes in a timely manner and logged properly for compliance and record-keeping.
- Assist in scheduling design deliverables to align with overall project time lines and field installation needs.
Training and Certification Requirements:
- Proficient in AutoCAD; Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of fire alarm systems, including basic components and wiring methods.
- Understanding of applicable codes and standards including NFPA 72, NEC, and local AHJ requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, particularly in version control and document management.
- Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects and respond to time-sensitive revisions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- NICET Level I or II in Fire Alarm Systems
