Not every property has a business sprinkler system, but they should! Here’s how to maintain yours.
In our book, there’s no such thing as overlooking a business sprinkler system. In order for these systems to do their job, they must be well maintained and 100% functional at all times. That means it’s our responsibility to ensure you have the proper equipment, and it’s your responsibility to take care of it.
Here are five tips for maintaining these systems with ease.
Perform A Physical Inspection To Ensure Everything Looks Intact
A lot of times, physical inspections are all it takes to notice that something is off. Luckily, there are several visual elements on a fire sprinkler head to help make this step a little easier.
Be sure to check the sprinkler heads for paint, dust or obstruction. If you see any of these signs, let us know so that we can give it another look.
Inspect All Control Valves
Each business sprinkler system has control valves that must be kept in perfect condition or they will be deemed defective.
Check to be sure that all control valves are open, accessible, properly locked in place and free from any leakage.
This is also when you’ll want to examine the water and air pressure gages to double-check they are showing normal ranges.
Remove Anything That’s Closer Than 18 Inches From The Height Of The Sprinklers
Imagine a fire breaks out and the sprinklers are unable to extinguish the fire due to the boxes that are blocking its path.
That’s an incident you’d only find humorous in movies. It’s required to keep objects at least 18 inches from the height of any storage to the sprinkler heads.
Always Keep Some Extra Sprinkler Heads On Hand
Things happen and office parties get rowdy. Be sure to always have spare heads that match the exact type and temperature rating of your current business sprinkler system.
We recommend having at least 6 extra heads at your facility along with the corresponding wrench for each type; if you need help discovering which ones to stock up on, contact us and we’d be happy to let you know!
